20 things I’ve learnt in 20 years

20 years is an awful long time when you think about. like I did. just now. You would think I would have learnt something by now about life. I’m still trying to get to grips with WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON. But considering I’m 20 and my 15 year old self would want (*totally one hundred percent NEEDED*) some advice about how to navigate yourself through what feels like THE most important years of your life, these are some of the things that stick out:

  • You’ll get over it, whatever it is

  • Better to do something embarrassing and be remembered than do nothing and be forgotten

  • It’s okay to do things on your own

  • Learn how to be alone in any situation

  • Look past everyone’s superficial layer

  • Keep in touch with people you feel a connection with, even if it’s just a “hey” every couple of months

  • “School life” means nothing outside of school

  • Who you are is whoever you want to be

  • Own all your “faults” until they’re not faults anymore

  • Drink water between every cocktail

  • Your family are the best people to be around, always

  • You will at some point turn into your own version of your parents

  • Boys are NOT everything

  • If you stop doing exercise you do put on weight (who would have thought?)

  • Gotye’s “somebody that I used to know” is all too real

  • Clean white bed sheets are the best

  • Your parents are the best

  • As long as your nails are done and you have a nice handbag, you’re sorted

  • Quality over quantity

  • Two panadol nights after a night out will prevent ANY risk of a hangover

  • Sometimes you lie. You said this was 20 things you learnt in 20 years, well bitch this is 21
